In 2015 I contracted Lyme disease. One of the more significant symptoms was loss of vision. Since regaining vision Winter 2018, oil painting has become an increasingly important spiritual practice for me. I am grateful every day for the gift of sight and consider painting a form of praise and prayer. Painting always opens me to new reasons for gratitude, new learnings and insights.
In 2022 I was encouraged to stretch out of my comfort zone and exhibit/sell my paintings. The postcards above were created in anticipation of "putting myself out there". After preparing for and exhibiting at the 2022 Kings Mountain Art Fair, in Woodside, CA I decided to return focus to "painting for the sake of gratitude, new learnings, and insights." At least for the time being.
That led to my starting up a series of animal paintings (a gift for my grandson), and monthly classes entitled "Beyond Words" - combining Torah study with creative expression. More recently, in 2024, I organized the first community Art & Poetry installation as part of the Shavuot Night of Learning at Congregation Beth Jacob. It was such a success that others are sure to follow.
Feel free to follow TendingSpirit on FB - it's where I often post my latest paintings. Do let me know if there are any that move you, or if you'd like to talk about purchasing or commissioning a painting.
Thank you for your support.
